About the Department:
The Department of History at Hazi A. K. Khan College was established in 2008, initially offering only General Course and upgrading to an Honours Course in 2010. It began with 30 History Honours students and has since grown, currently supported by over 380 students and five faculty members.
The department aims to connect students to the past, present, and future to make informed and engaged global citizens. It strives to provide high-quality history education, encourage critical thinking, and raise academic and professional standards of students.
It offers a variety of courses, including Honours, Generic Elective, Skill Enhancement, and Programme Courses, along with several value-added and add-on courses on topics like Bengali cuisine, the silk industry, and heritage management.
The department employs innovative, student-centric teaching methods like participative and experiential learning. Activities such as seminars, heritage walks, project-based assignments, and inter-departmental lectures are emphasized, along with projects on local history and folk art.
The department is dedicated to cater to the academic development of students with a departmental library. It also encourages participation in cultural programs, sports, and self-defense courses and social activities.
The department is committed to continuous improvement, with plans to expand its library, organize more seminars and workshops, and enhance student engagement through various interdisciplinary and ICT-enabled initiatives.
