A scholarship is a form of financial aid awarded to students to further education. Scholarships are awarded based upon various criteria, such as academic merit, diversity and inclusion, athletic skill, and financial need. The West Bengal and the central government implement several top scholarship schemes in Bengal for needy and meritorious students. Students belonging to Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe, Minority community and Meritorious, Poor, Female students are entitled to get several West Bengal Government scholarships.
1. Swami Vivekananda Merit cum Means Scholarship:
With a view to assisting the meritorious students belonging to economically backward families in the State of West Bengal to pursue higher studies, the Government of West Bengal introduces this scheme of giving scholarships at different levels of higher studies, at educational institutions based in West Bengal. The upper ceiling for family income has been fixed at Rs.2, 50,000/- per annum. The minimum qualifying marks for being considered for award of scholarships will be 60% in aggregate, in the H.S. Examination conducted by the W.B. Council of H.S. Education/Madrasha Siksha Parishad. For the UG (Arts), UG (Commerce), UG (Science) separate merit lists will be prepared.
2. Kanyashree Prakalpa:
Kanyashree Prakalpa seeks to improve the status and wellbeing of girls, specifically those from socio-economically disadvantaged families through Conditional Cash Transfers. The one-time grant of Rs. 25,000/- is for girls who are between the ages of 18 and 19.
3. OASIS Scholarship:
Backward Classes Welfare Department of West Bengal Govt. providing OASIS Scholarship for SC, ST and OBC students to help them financially for their higher studies. Candidate will be selected for this Scholarship on the basis of their financial condition and merit.
4. Aikyashree Scholarship:
West Bengal State Scholarships for Minority Students with a view to providing them more avenues for socio-economic and educational mobility by extending financial support and encouragement to the meritorious students. The West Bengal Minorities’ Development & Finance Corporation (WBMDFC) will be the Nodal Organization for this scheme.
